Feeling Groovy

Slow down, you move too fast.

You got to make the morning last.

Just kicking down the cobble stones.

Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy.

Hello lamppost,

What cha knowing?

I’ve come to watch your flowers growing.

Ain’t cha got no rhymes for me?

Doot-in’ doo-doo,

Feelin’ groovy.

Simon & Garfunkel

The other day I was rushing out of Office Max towards my car to rush over to Costco. I passed a mail carrier who commented as I walked away, “you should deliver the mail you move so fast.”

That got me to thinking where am I rushing. Well technically Costco, then home to pick something up, followed by C.B. South to dropoff something and I will wrap it all up by rushing to Action to teach my first class of the day. The pessimist might say I am rushing to my own death.

Now I start getting deep with myself. Maybe I should kick back and smell the roses. Ms. Linda always says being married to me is like being on a roller coaster; I am always on the go and always have plans. Ms. Linda needs to sit in the recliner and drink her coffee I need my coffee on the run. Who is right?

I think we both are. I need to be busy with family, work, friends, music, golf etc. I need the Aerosmith Rockin Roller Coaster. She needs to live her life like the It’s A Small World Ride. The styles allow us to maintain our individual sanities. So what is your style? Do you really need to speed up or slow down? Maybe yes maybe no.

  1. Since you seem to like song lyrics:

Where’s the fire, what’s the hurry about?
You’d better cool it off before you burn it out
You’ve got so much to do and Only so many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told..
That you can get what you want or you get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even
    Get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you? — Mr. Billy Joel

Mr. McCreery I think I am a lot like you. If I am not busy doing something I feel as if I am wasting my day. I think you are aware that I have major sleep issues, I couldn’t sleep a couple of nights back so I spent the evening in the garage working on my car. Once the family woke up it was time to spend the day playing with the kids. But I have to admit Ms. Linda has a good idea as well, but sitting in the recliner is the end of the day activity. In my opinion you are spot on, coffee is on the go and the day needs to be filled with plans and activities – no “small world ride” for me !

back to Billy Joel, perhaps my favorite line from the song:
You’ve got your passion, you’ve got your pride
but don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

  2. I need my “CAVE TIME” so that I can enjoy my “fast times.” I need my CAVE TIME so that I can approach people & events with enthusiasm & spontaniety.
I need my CAVE TIME so that I can recover from living too fast, when life is threatening to come crashing into my house in the forms of too much media or hanging out with certain relatives ( U can choose your friends; not your relatives)that are too toxic 4 me. I need my CAVE TIME so that I can process my life stories & weed out possible carcinogenic thoughts and expand upon the possible “Red Oak Tree” Thoughts that’ll keep me strong & full of endurance.
My grandfather once said that I “talk in spurts,” meaning that sometimes I talk on & on and other times, it’s very difficult to get me going with the talking, because all I say is that everything is AWESOME (which it is; however, sometimes the record keeps on skipping & the cleaner isn’t nearby).
So, wow, I rambled on today! Had a long spurt there! Thanks for your attention to my ramblings. Like Yin & Yang, I need both. Just like praising in public & challenging in private (in my cave, I challenge myself to get with the program or get out of the kitchen. Oh, how I would love to get out of the kitchen & stay out! Somedays it feels like a conspiracy to keep me in the kitchen cooking all day & all I can think about is how my life is passing me by!).
    Remember those days?!
    Ok, now I am done.
    ASAH!
    Ms. Deb =)
